Bio-Mechanical Lego creatures

I’ve always enjoyed playing with Legos when I was a kid. I bought dozens of legos packs and got more still from friends. I had drawers full of lego blocks, but I was never able to create something like the picture to the left. That is not the only one this guy created, if you want to see all of his work, take a look Here , its pretty amazing some of the creatures he built. What I really want to know is not how he constructed them, but where he got the lego pieces to construct them.

Those pieces are not standard Lego pieces. I can’t find those types of pieces in any construction kit that I’ve ever seen. I know there are special kits but I doubt there are any specifically to build bio-mechanical creatures such as the one shown. It makes me wonder if the guy actually produced his own lego pieces to do such a thing. If that were the case, I am truly impressed. The tubing isn’t hard to make but to make the joints connect correctly with standard legos is a different matter.
