In china and the great internet Firewall

Being in China, I found that they have really strange firewall restrictions. They let several sites through that I thought they would block but blocked some sites that I don’t think make any sense at all in blocking. CNN, dailykos, youtube, and foxnews are not blocked. In fact, none of the major news sites are blocked and neither are a lot of free new publishing sites and blogs. Once I saw this, I was really encouraged. But soon I found out that some flash arcades and portals that I frequent are blocked — a fact that irritates me greatly. For instance newgrounds.com and funny-games.biz are firewalled off for some reason. It really doesn’t make any sense.

Why would the great Chinese firewall block off a flash portal like Newgrounds and a random games and humor site like funny-games.biz but not block off youtube? Isn’t it a lot more likely that someone will publish unwanted material on Youtube than on Newgrounds? It doesn’t make any sense to block off the later without blocking out the former. They also don’t block off bastions of liberalism like Dailykos or the anti-everything-that-is-not-american-especially-those-things-that-bear-any-traces-of-comunism network known as fox news. Yet they block off a site like funny-games.biz which really just displays good flash games and funny toons that hardly has any political overtones.

If this were a work line, I would understand as Newgrounds and Funny-games may result in loss of productivity, but since this is a home line, it doesn’t make any sense. If anyone from China is reading this, please let me know if you can access Newgrounds or not. I really need to access the audio portal to get a track for my latest game.
