After his trip in the War Zone, Obama is finding questions about the successful troop surge hard to answer since he was against it. Obama admitted that the troop surge was successful but he still stands by this original stance that he is against it. This is a pretty good move by Obama I think. It proves that he is willing to stick to his principles when things are against him. Politically, this may hurt him as it will reveal his weakness and little knowledge about foreign affairs. It may also make some people think that he really doesn’t know what the best thing to do in Iraq is. |
However, I doubt it will hurt him too much as all his followers are generally against the war regardless if the troop surge was successful or not. And this troop surge could just be a temporary success as it probably hasn’t really crushed the rebel opposition. If we see continued violence in the coming months, it will make people think twice about the success of the troop surge opposition.
