Breaking from the cowboy “I pwn everyone” tactics of the Bush adminstration, a leading United States diplomat will Talk with Iran about nukes — which we do not want them to obtain. America’s third highest ranking diplomat will talk with an Iranian convoy about halting the development of nuclear weapons. Contacts like these are extremely rare but this could be a first step in the right direction — provided that the other side is reasonable. I’m not optimistic about the results of these talks, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens. |
I hope this opens up interesting possibilities for diplomacy so we don’t have to fight any more awesome wars. But I doubt either side will trust the other much in these talks. As long as we support Israel, they will look at us like mortal death-enemies. I’m afraid that there isn’t much we can do in this situation but I’ll keep my eyes poised.
