Who will carry the olympic torch in the last leg?

With the games being so close and the torch relay being broadcast all over China, a lot of people are wondering who will be the last bearer of the torch into the stadium to light the flame. It will be one of China’s great athletes most likely but no one knows who it will be. My bet right now is on Yao Ming. He’s not just a Chinese icon, but is known world-wide for being 7-6 and a great NBA basketball player. He has the goodwill of just about everyone and is someone most of the world can respect. Plus, everyone who watches the opening ceremony knows who he is. He would be the ideal person.

Of course there are other good candidates too like the guy who won a gold for China in the 110m hurdles last time, but he’s not as known across the world like Yao Ming. Since China is trying to capture the world stage and everyone knows that this time these Olympic games are as much about politics and show as anything else, he would make the perfect represenative and diplomat for China. I think he may be China’s first international sports Icon. I hope that Yao is the one to light the torch at the end.
