In the latest bit Barack Obama is obviously upset that McCain/Palin is advocating change. Obama says something basically along the lines of “change is my thing and you can’t use it!”. I’m sorry Obama, but you do not somehow have a monopoly on change. “Change” is an empty feel-good term that anyone can shout out to pander to the public. Not only you, but John McCain, can also give empty and bogus promises of “change” in order to garner votes. He’s just figured out your little strategy and using it too so your strategy doesn’t seem so unique. The choice of Sarah Palin as V.P. has made it even harder for Obama to keep his monopoly on change since hey, the other party now also has a hot and young face for people to look at. Having a conservative version of Obama as his V.P. was a brilliant idea as people who are looking closely at Palin will also want to look more closely at Obama, something Obama wants to avoid. |
The main problem for Obama is that he doesn’t really have an attack route on Palin. Most of the made-up stories about Palin have been proven untrue(especially about her daughter being her granddaughter). He can’t really hammer Palin on experience since he has so little himself. And with Palin on the opposite ticket the old/young contrast does not work as well as it once did. He also has the sexist problem now. Obama’s secretly been hiding under the racist card being shielded by his supporters for a while. The answer of “thats racist” has been pretty effective against every McCain attack. Now the shoe is on the other foot and the McCain camp can just shout “thats sexist” back at him. It makes the tactics of this election much more interesting.
Obama has also openly started to criticize McCalin/Palin for their empty promises of “change”. But he needs to be careful as his own promises of “change” are pretty empty themselves. Unlike McCain, who has lots of bi-partisan legislation under his belt, Obama has very little. If you look back at his voting record both in the Illinois senate and the U.S. senate, you’ll notice it indicates that he was either a MIA when it comes to voting or a people pleaser. There have been some places online that are saying that foreign countries prefer Obama over McCain because Obama is an ass-kisser while McCain is seen as an ass-kicker. Unfortunately for those countries, Americans would prefer an ass-kicker over an ass-kisser.
Overall, I’m amused by the changes that Palin has brought to the race. I think it has given the McCain campaign some life.
