X-men aren’t the only ones with mutant abilities in this world. The frog at the left can also grow claws at will for self-defense purposes. This type of frog was discovered over a century ago in Africa. At first people thought the claws were just leftovers stuck to the skin. They’ve also been known to use them to grip or climb. Defensive capabilities were only shown when a group of scientists tried to handle them and ended up with deep, bleeding wounds.

Obviously the natives have known about this type of frog for quite some time and only hunt them with sharp weapons.

Yes, the object at the right is a PC case, albeit a really cool one. As a former maximum PC subscriber, I always enjoyed reading the “rig of the month” part of Maximum PC to see what people could put their PC into. I’ve seen alot of amazing stuff, but this article takes the cake for cool PC mods. Some of the stuff done here is just unbelievable. There’s a PC made from an antique telephone, one made from R2D2, and even one made from a time bomb.

My personal favorite and the best consensus one is the one made from a toilet with stuff dripping out from it. The design and thought that goes into these things must be huge as I’ve found it hard to shove computer parts in less than ideal cases most of the time. If it managed to fit, cooling is almost always an issue. I’m amazed that all these guys can re-direct the airflow to make these computers not overheat with these mods. I also remember computers that had a more practical use for their excess heat. My favorite was the computer that used the heat generated to make coffee or the computer that produced some kind of gel that the kid used as hair gel from the cooling system. I hope they run a contests for the most creative ways to use computer heat sometime.

This is simply amazing, a breakthrough in animal behavior development. A 17 yr-old student actually trained a goldfish to swim through obstacles to get food. But thats not even the impressive part. The fish actually herds other fish like sheepdogs to sheep to go get food. Its pretty amazing. This girl is attending the Nobel Prize award later this year.

But this telescope is not built for looking into the heavens like so many others, this telescope allows people on one side of the Atlantic see directly to the other side via an underground tunnel that spans the Atlantic. I think the tunnel is just as amazing as the telescope itself. I had no idea that they built one that reached from North America to Europe.  I have to go take a peek in the telescope sometime and see whats going on in England.

A bio-tech company in California is planning to sell a string of cloned dogs at an auction with prices starting at $100,000. You might be seeing exact mirrors of your dear Fido soon.

This represents a breakthrough in cloning  technology because dogs have a very complex breeding system, even more so than humans.  Customers of this service would be those who have lost pets in the past and wish to bring them back, but there are a few difficulties to this.

1. Cloned Animals usually don’t come out right and have short livespans. Dolly the sheep didn’t see problems until she was two or three years of age. Considering the difficulty of the reproductive process of dogs, I can see this being a severe problem with cloning them.

2. The cloned dog will not be your pet. Your are cloning an animal to make a physical duplicate, it won’t have any of the memories or thought patterns of your previous pet. This is not a resurrection device(I’ll be the first to sign up if they invent that). Your basically getting a band new pet.

3. You know PETA is going to up in arms over this.

The PETA thing alone is enough to scare me off, but why not just go to the pet shop or pound and adopt another dog?

Folks, we might have just found a solution to our Gas problem. If people take from this example, you cars and trucks might be powered by these:

Instead of regular gas. This truck, like others who used “alternative” fuel sources all use “gasification” to convert bio-matter into fuel. You could practically use anything as fuel. Apples, oranges, bananas peels, or coffee beans as fuel. How much energy you can generate per unit of matter is the main problem. For this to be feasible, you’d have to make the process generate energy as efficiently as the current gasoline engine.

You thought you were good at making stuff in your home shop? Well, you are nothing compared to the man that Soars above the Swiss alps on this homemade jet-powered wing. Check out a picture of this jet-powered wing he made himself:

On Wednesday, Yves Rossy, did his first public demonstration flight of his homemade device. He soared high above the swiss alps and did figure eights. The crowd was captivated and entralled. Later when asked about the future, Rossy said he plans to fly across the English Channel and someday fly in the Grand Canyon. Flying across such Terran will require some modifications to his personal jetpack. So far about $285,000 has been poured into this project by Rossy and his sponsors. For me, I really want to see this live and in-person when he flies the Grand Canyon.
